Data Table
3. Total and Per Capita Number of Highly Cited Researchers in Country
USA has by far the largest number of highly cited researchers on the list with more than all other countries combined. In a very distant second is the UK, with China in 3rd. However when we examine the numbers on a per capita basis, a very different picture emerges. Switzerland, the location of the Hadron Collider at CERN, is by far the best performing country per capita with the Netherlands in second. The two countries with the biggest number of researchers, the USA and the UK, still rank quite high on the per capita list.
